Main Application

HBOPS-Na is an acetylenic compound used as leveling agent in the formulation of electrolytic Watts bright nickel baths. It is also works in the bath as a secondary brightener. Usually, HBOPS-Na is combined with saccharin, PPS or PPSOH and wetting agents. Best results are obtained with PPS and POPS.

 

HBOPS-Na, or Sodium 4-hydroxybutyl vinyl sulfonate, is a water-soluble monomer that contains both a hydrophilic sulfonate group and a reactive vinyl group, making it ideal for various polymer and surface-modification applications. Its dual functionality allows it to copolymerize with a wide range of monomers, enabling the development of advanced materials with enhanced performance characteristics.

1. Water-Soluble Polymers

HBOPS-Na is widely used in the synthesis of water-soluble or hydrophilic polymers. These polymers are employed in areas such as wastewater treatment, superabsorbent materials, and dispersants due to their excellent ionic conductivity and moisture-retaining properties.

2. Electroplating and Conductive Coatings

The sulfonate group in HBOPS-Na enhances electrolyte conductivity, making it useful as an additive in electroplating baths or conductive polymer coatings for electronics and metal finishing industries.

3. Biomedical Materials

Its biocompatibility and hydrophilicity make HBOPS-Na a valuable component in hydrogels, contact lenses, and drug delivery systems. It helps improve water retention, reduces protein adhesion, and enhances comfort in biomedical applications.

4. Antistatic and Anti-fouling Coatings

When used in coatings, HBOPS-Na imparts antistatic and anti-fouling properties, making it ideal for applications in cleanrooms, electronics packaging, or marine coatings where static buildup and contamination must be minimized.

5. Adhesives and Sealants

In adhesives, especially pressure-sensitive adhesives, HBOPS-Na improves adhesion under moist conditions and enhances durability, particularly in flexible packaging and medical tape applications.
