Butynediol ethoxylate is a nonionic surfactant derived from the ethoxylation of 1,4-butynediol. It is a clear to slightly yellow liquid with good water solubility and low volatility. Known for its unique structure containing both ethylene oxide units and a terminal alkyne group, it offers multifunctional performance in various chemical applications.

 

Applications

 


Butynediol ethoxylate is widely used as a reactive surfactant and dispersant in polymer synthesis, especially in the production of waterborne polyurethane dispersions and acrylic emulsions. Its excellent emulsifying properties make it suitable for use in agrochemical formulations, textile auxiliaries, and coatings. In addition, it can function as a flow modifier and wetting agent in inks, adhesives, and paints.

Thanks to its terminal alkyne functionality, Butynediol ethoxylate also serves as an intermediate for further chemical modifications, enabling its use in specialty chemical synthesis and custom surfactant design. It enhances stability and dispersion in both aqueous and solvent systems.
